Journeys in colour
My creative practice is deeply rooted in my sketchbooks. The paintings in this series are all based on observational works recorded in them between 2023-2024. Journeys in Colour refers not only to my responses to visited places, but also the evolution of my art practice.
I developed the process of repeating a composition in different media - the sketchbook drawings were used as reference for making gel plate prints, which went on to be used as reference for paintings. This distillation acted to simplify the composition and exaggerate the colours, moving away from what was observed in reality, to my own personal interpretation of the memory of a place.
